Alternative Education Program (AEP)

Eligibility:

  • Students, grades K through 12, who are identified as having severe adjustments difficulties in traditional school settings
  • Students with a mental health diagnosis
  • Students expelled from an Approved Private School (APS)
  • Students on a waiting list for an APS placement
  • Children and adolescents with autism, mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

Goals:

  • Increase the social, emotional, and academic success of students who are at risk and/or in crisis
  • Assist the school in providing therapeutic interventions on site without interfering with a student receiving his or her educational instruction

Services:

  • Ongoing liaison/coordination with parents, teachers and the entire children and youth services (Mental Health, Child Welfare, Probation and Juvenile Justice)
  • Student, Parent and Family Counseling
  • Priority access to Community Council’s continuum of care
  • Individualized, age and academic-appropriate instruction
  • Positive behavioral skills development sessions
