Alternative
Education Program (AEP)
Eligibility:
- Students, grades K through 12, who are identified as having
severe adjustments difficulties in traditional school settings
- Students with a mental health diagnosis
- Students expelled from an Approved Private School (APS)
- Students on a waiting list for an APS placement
- Children and adolescents with autism, mental retardation and
developmental disabilities.
Goals:
- Increase the social, emotional, and academic success of students
who are at risk and/or in crisis
- Assist the school in providing therapeutic interventions on
site without interfering with a student receiving his or her educational
instruction
Services:
- Ongoing liaison/coordination with parents, teachers and the
entire children and youth services (Mental Health, Child Welfare,
Probation and Juvenile Justice)
- Student, Parent and Family Counseling
- Priority access to Community Council’s continuum of care
- Individualized, age and academic-appropriate instruction
- Positive behavioral skills development sessions
